Vesuvius & Herculaneum

Big hike up Vesuvius today (after the bus brought us much of the way up).  It was more crowded with tourists than I expected, but it was very cool to look into the crater and imagine the immense heat of an eruption.  Next up was Herculaneum; cool to see, but honestly a bit underwhelming.  I loved the mosaic in the House of Neptune & Amphitrite, as well as all the carbonized wood (the pyroclastic flow instantly fossilized everything there!)

After we got back early again, Nicole and I led a number of others to the beach for a swim.  For dinner, we had spicy pasta, chicken, eggplant, and a yummy apple cake with raspberry sauce.
