Vergilian First Day

So today was a bit of challenge. I woke up feeling unwell and felt off all day. We Fulbright folks finished packing and hopped on the bus to start the Vergilian Society program. We visited Terracina and Sperlonga again, a couple of sites we saw a few weeks ago. But we did get to see the town of Terracina (and its forum), which we had skipped before, so that was good. Lunch (a packed lunch from the bus folks, I think), left something to be desired—a salami & cheese sandwich, spreadable cheese, a banana, and an odd coffee-flavored pastry.

We got to the Villa this evening and had our rooms assigned. I have ended up with a single, but it is hot, there are no sinks in the room, and the wireless is only accessible downstairs. Despite my excitement to see these sites, it’s definitely a challenge to keep going these last two weeks away from home. That said, it’s a pretty spot with a balcony overlooking an amphitheater and the Bay of Naples in the distance. For dinner, we had spaghetti, turkey cutlets, peppers & tomatoes (I mistook green peppers for green beans), and yummy cream puffs.
